Many of us were brought up to believe that in this life all you need is a steady job, a family and a home. Well, at first you may think that there is nothing wrong with that but in actual fact, such archetypical model has proven to be a complete disaster for a lot more people than statistics are willing to admit.
Life is an extraordinary journey where each one of us has the unique opportunity to be who they truly are. What does that mean? It means that you have to experience life according to what your inner feelings are telling you.
Nowadays, most of us are so busy making everyone else happy that we forget how to make ourselves happy. Every person has expectations; if your partner brings you coffee in bed in the morning, you may be very happy the first few times but then it becomes routine and you will take their gesture for granted.
This is how we develop automatism. In modern society, from the moment we wake up until the moment we go to bed, we go through life in a state of half consciousness where only traumatic events such as a sudden earthquake, the death of a beloved or anything completely unexpected can momentarily bring our consciousness back to the present moment.
Many people have resorted to drugs or alcohol to handle the unbearable pain of becoming emotionally numb. Metaphorically speaking, we feel as if we were already dead and can no longer feel the enthusiasm we felt when we were much younger and thoughtless.
It seems that the price we pay for a life of illusionary security – because it won’t last anyway – it’s way too high. We become like zombies, going through the motions without any feelings whatsoever; it’s much easier to pop pills or drink yourself to death than having the courage to face who you truly are.
Unfortunately, as human beings, we can only learn through experience. Depression is not your enemy but your best ally. Depression is there to tell you that you are doing something which your soul doesn’t like.
Are you really living the life you have always wanted or are you just carrying your body around?
Be brave and take some time for yourself. Understand who you are and don’t let others criticize you because your lifestyle doesn’t reflect their expectations of you.
The biggest mistake in this life is stopping believing in yourself.
Pull yourself together and be grateful for everything that comes your way. Try not to get used to anything anymore nor anyone – don’t take them for granted -, have no expectations and life will become a joyful playground as it was meant to be since the beginning of time.
I love YOU
