STORYLINE: 5/5

A cute horror story! The beginning seems a little complicated because it’s hard to understand who summoned whom and for what purpose but as the game progresses, all the pieces fall into place.

CUTSCENES: 5/5

Very accurately made from the beginning until the end of the game.

VOICE OVERS: 5/5

Few actors involved and they all did a great job.

MUSIC: 5/5

The music is quite pleasant and they have used more than a theme for the entire game which is actually quite short.

SFX (Sound Effects): 5/5

Perfectly appropriate for the situation and the items used.

ARTISTIC ILLUSTRATIONS: 5/5

Very beautiful! You get to explore so many different scenes both outdoor and indoor. Excellent artistic work.

MINI GAMES: 5/5

Sort of cute. Not too challenging but also not too easy.

HIDDEN OBJECT: 5/5

I personally dislike ho scenes so I’ll try to be as unbiased as I can. There were a bit too many of them in the game for my taste, it would have been better with just half of them. However, the objects are very easy to see and always placed in clever positions; a good job after all.

PLAYABILITY: 4/5

A map was essential here due to the numerous locations available to explore at the same time. I had to use the hint button several times because I had no clue what to do next. At times, but luckily not that often, you have to return to the initial scene to use certain items and that was a bit annoying in my view.

WEIRD PARK – Scary Tales

WEIRD PARK – Scary Tales

DEVELOPER :

ALAWAR

STORYLINE: 4/5

Interesting storyline which starts with a breathtaking introduction though it loses a bit of its power half way through. Still very good but not excellent!

CUTSCENES: 5/5

The intro scene is a masterpiece. What a piety they did not use enough cutscenes throughout game play. Excellently illustrated and animated.

VOICE OVERS: 5/5

Perfect: well acted and convincing.

MUSIC: 5/5

The music is aligned with the theme of the game so it’s pretty good.

SFX (Sound Effects): 5/5

Appropriate for each scene and the interactive elements in each scene.

ARTISTIC ILLUSTRATIONS: 5/5

The art work is really good here. Well done!

MINI GAMES: 5/5

Mini games are quite good in this game, I think this is a strong point for this particular game.

HIDDEN OBJECT: 4/5

Traditional ho scenes have been used for this game. There are way too many ho scenes in the game which disrupt game immersion. The same scene is often used twice for finding different objects and it gets quite boring after a while. There is no interactivity but just a long list of items to be found.

PLAYABILITY: 4/5

A map was definitely necessary here. There is a stage in the middle of the game where you have a lot of scenes available for exploration, as well as a lot of items in your inventory, and it is almost virtually impossible to remember where to use them. The rest is fine.

WELLORE

STORYLINE: 5/5

This story is quite intriguing as you have to discover what has happened to a renown scientist who has suddenly disappeared. It gets more and more complex as you continue playing, overall a good story.

CUTSCENES: 5/5

Perfectly executed and appropriately inserted though I would have loved having some more cutscenes during game play.

VOICE OVERS: 5/5

Perfectly acted. A few actors were involved in the job and they all did an excellent job!

MUSIC: 3/5

This is something which actually pissed me off… Such a great game, why did you use just one theme for the entire game – hidden object scenes included? Ok, the music was fine at first but after a while it got on my nerves. This is a long game, there should have been more themes in it.

SFX (Sound Effects): 5/5

Very good. Every single detail has been enriched with appropriate sounds.

ARTISTIC ILLUSTRATIONS: 5/5

Stunning! The sense of space in the game is incredible. You have the impression of being outdoor in huge places while in reality you are still in front of the screen. Excellent art!

MINI GAMES: 5/5

Very good mini games. Simple to understand, a bit challenging but never too difficult.

HIDDEN OBJECT: 4/5

This is the part of the game I don’t really like but that’s my personal view. In terms of quality, well this was a very traditional ho with a list of objects to be found in a scene with some occasional interactive areas. To me a bit boring because there were too many ho scenes in the game for my taste and though, beautifully illustrated, the number of items to be found was somehow overwhelming.

PLAYABILITY: 4/5

This is one of those games which needed a map and didn’t have one. Don’t get me wrong, most items are very near the places where you need to use them but at times, you get a lot of items at once and there are too many scenes available so it becomes difficult to remember where those items where needed.

STORYLINE: 5/5

Be prepared for a really unique psycho thriller. The story is really interesting right from the start and it keeps you hooked until the very end.

CUTSCENES: 5/5

The art work in this game is really outstanding and the cutscenes are perfectly executed.

VOICE OVERS: 5/5

Excellent and convincing acting

MUSIC: 5/5

There are a few themes in this game which have been intelligently intertwined with the spectacular SFX

SFX (Sound Effects): 5/5

Perfectly synchronized with the atmosphere of the game.

ARTISTIC ILLUSTRATIONS: 5/5

Absolutely brilliant. Each single scene leaves you with your mouth wide open for its stunning beauty. Highly detailed even in the smallest areas. An applause and a standing ovation to the artists here.

MINI GAMES: 5/5

Few mini games but sort of nice and entertaining.

HIDDEN OBJECT: 5/5

Traditional style but beautifully inserted in a breathtaking scenario.

PLAYABILITY: 5/5

Perfect! The game has a diary as well which helps you throughout the game. What I particularly enjoyed is the pace of the game and the fact that you normally use your items in the same scene or nearby scenes without having to do any running around. Bravo!

ECHOES OF SORROW 2

KAURIBU

STORYLINE: 4/5

Despite the title, this is not a sequel of the previous game though it follows the same logic in terms of exploration. The story is quite twisted and interesting but never really reaches momentum. The end finishes abruptly without any extra scenes or explanation.

CUTSCENES: 5/5

Beautifully illustrated 2d scenes cleverly arranged. The illustrations are still but the movement of the camera gives the impression of animation. The result is very effective.

VOICE OVERS: 5/5

The actors here did a fantastic job.

MUSIC: 5/5

There are a few themes, some of them are recurrent but never boring. Special themes have also been used cleverly in fundamental scenes to create suspense.

SFX (Sound Effects): 5/5

There are tons of sfx in this game and this is one of the reasons why I’ve enjoyed it so much.

ARTISTIC ILLUSTRATIONS: 5/5

Incredibly good. Excellent artistic work.

MINI GAMES: 5/5

This is one of the strongest point of the game. There are not so many puzzles in this game but the few which are there are really good and some quite unique. It took me a long time to finish a few challenging puzzles but if you don’t get impatient, you can manage to solve them. Not the usual and boring minigames. Well done!

HIDDEN OBJECT: 4/5

Ok, the scenes were spectacular but often the objects were either too small or too well hidden to be spotted. They put way too many ho scenes in this game, at times I got bored, it would have been better having just half of them.

PLAYABILITY: 4/5

I often found sparkling areas with no comments. What I mean is that you know there is an action available in that area but there are no clues about what you are supposed to do. Most of the time the actions are sort of easy to guess but not having any comments from the main character when she finds new active areas was a bit of a turn off for me. There is no map but you actually don’t need one because of the way the game is structured.

 SHAMAN GAMES

STORYLINE: 5/5

The storyline is incredibly captivating. The game starts with a very good introduction which will  absorb you more and more into the game until the point when you’ll find it almost impossible to quit. I’ve already played this game twice and I’m sure I’ll play it again later on.

CUTSCENES: 5/5

Excellent. Great, detailed 3d scenery. The animation is perfect!

VOICE OVERS: 5/5

Absolutely convincing. The acting is emotional and accurate.

MUSIC: 5/5

This music will stay with you forever. It’s a soundtrack like the one that was used in the movie “The Exorcist”.  It may seem repetitive at times but you just don’t know why you like it so much. Just the music by itself will give you the chills…

SFX (Sound Effects): 5/5

Appropriate and detailed

ARTISTIC ILLUSTRATIONS: 5/5

Breathtaking. Each scene is a masterpiece and when you think, ok this must be the best scene in the game, you’ll be surprised of discovering even better illustrations. Great artists at work here.

MINI GAMES: 5/5

Good, clever and easily understandable.

HIDDEN OBJECT: 5/5

There is no classic hidden object scene in this game because the entire game is based on searching objects and put them in the right place. Excellently done!

PLAYABILITY: 5/5

Absolutely perfect! The game doesn’t have a map but you really don’t need one because the objects are never too far from where they need to be used and somehow the game follows a sort of logic which is not difficult to grasp.

BLITPOP GAMES

ALAWAR ENTERTAINEMENT

STORYLINE: 5/5

This is a psychological thriller which is really worth playing. At first, I wasn’t convinced as this game is a little dated, I think it was released in 2011, but as soon as I started playing it, I got hooked. The story is very original and full of unexpected events.

CUTSCENES: 3/5

You may think that I’m a bit too generous here because the cutscenes are actually really basic: a series of 2d drawings with just some clever camera movements and basic animation. However, as you progress in the game you discover how cleverly they were made.

VOICE OVERS: 0/5

None!

MUSIC: 5/5

The music is about 60% of the beauty of this game. It’s always appropriate and changes for each chapter.

SFX (Sound Effects): 5/5

Appropriate and pleasant.

ARTISTIC ILLUSTRATIONS: 5/5

Very well done. They all look hand drawn and detailed.

MINI GAMES: 3/5

There are very few mini games and actually quite simple.

HIDDEN OBJECT: 5/5

I don’t particularly like ho scenes but in this game you can see how much care they put into placing each object. Not to difficult to spot.

PLAYABILITY: 5/5

Now here there is something particular which I haven’t found in other games. When you hit the hint button, active areas where actions are available become highlighted but you are not going to get any real hint on how to solve the puzzle. At first, I didn’t like it because I got stuck a couple of times but then, after having read a walkthrough on line, I realized I had been impatient and could have found the solution without any help. My advice: be patient and keep looking everywhere even in areas which you think have been completed. Overall, very user friendly and you don’t actually need a  map because of the design of the game.
